Different Speech Patterns
Definition: A pattern means the regular and repeated way in which something happens or is done.
A speech can be prepared and presented in a particular pattern depending on the message the speaker wants to get across. There are numerous speech patterns that a speaker can use. However here are a few main ones that works really well and are regularly used.
This is used when you need to organize your presentation in a past/present /future pattern so that audience c.an follow easily. If you were to speak on a topic involving a series of events for example your icebreaker speech (speech about yourself) maybe along the lines of your upbringing/ your present career/ your goals for the future.
State/Discuss the problem and Offer Solutions. Consider whether the audience is already aware of the problem and also whether there maybe competing solutions.
This pattern is useful for scientific discussion. Can be use to assign blame for a resultant negative occurrence for example the implementation of a Policy/Procedure that resulted in exorbitant cost to the company.
Example: “Today I will talk about Effective Evaluation using the method known as the ‘Sandwich’ method. The first slice would involve highlighting the speakers strengths then the filler would include some recommendations for improvement topping it off by telling the speaker what he/she really excelled at.”
“Patient Care in the Clinic/Emergency Room/ Intensive Care Unit.”
“Our Missions in North America/Asia/Europe”
