The Craft of Poetry is a video lecture presentation on the art and craft of poetry as told from the perspective of the renowned and prolific Bahamian poet, Obediah Michael Smith. In this esoteric examination of the form and art, Smith constructs a dividing line between what poetry is and what it is not. Relaying insightful concepts related to the form, Smith provides a thorough analysis that not only guides other poets into the genius of poetry, but also inspires them to hone their craft with the finest and most delicate tools.
About the Instructor
Obediah Michael Smith was born in The Bahamas. He has published twenty books of poetry. He has lived in Mexico, Cuba, Costa Rica, Paris and he has spent the last three years in ten countries in Africa. He attended Memphis State University and Fisk University. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech and Drama. At the University of Miami and at UWI, Cave Hill, Barbados, he attended writers’ workshops conducted by Lorna Goodison, Earl Lovelace, Grace Nichols, Merle Collins, and Mervyn Morris.
